School is a building which has four walls with tomorrow inside

A question that has been asked from the beginning of civilization is how we as a collective can ensure safe education; a right for all. The answer to the question always leads to infrastructure. A child's ability to learn, grow, and succeed is closely linked to the environment in which they study. Safe infrastructure, access to clean drinking water, learning resources, and opportunities for recreation play a crucial role in shaping educational outcomes. However, for many children from underprivileged backgrounds, these opportunities remain limited. Imagine trying to learn in a dark, musty, ill-equipped space; this is a reality for a lot of children today. Challenges such as inadequate access to safe drinking water, lack of educational resources, and limited recreational spaces can negatively impact health, attendance and concentration. To add on, the lack of resources affects female children adversely more than male, as the lack of sanitation facilities poses a serious threat to health and safety for female children. This results in a high dropout rate of prepubescent female students. Thus, schools serve as an important learning and community hub, offering a safe and nurturing space for children. Its well-maintained infrastructure, clean surroundings, and children centric infrastructure allows it to make a real difference in children's lives. Recognising these needs, Way For Life, in collaboration with NTT DATA, partnered with Kodathi school to strengthen infrastructure and enhance student well-being. A key component of the initiative was the installation of a high-capacity RO Water Purification Plant capable of purifying up to 24,000 litres of water per day. The project was initiated in response to the growing need for access to safe and hygienic drinking water in schools, particularly those serving large student populations. This facility now provides safe drinking water to approximately 2,500 students and staff members, improving health, hygiene, and overall well-being. The availability of purified water also reduces the risks associated with waterborne diseases and contributes to creating a healthier educational environment. To support educational access, 1,800 school kits containing essential learning materials were distributed, helping reduce barriers to classroom participation and encouraging active learning. The school kit distribution was carried out across multiple institutions, including Kodathi High School, Bangalore, Cantonment Board High School, Chennai, Daimond Valley Junior High School, Noida, Government Primary Model School, Doddakannelli, Government Primary School, Caterpuri, and ZP School Kanjale–Tal Bhor, Pune District. This intervention significantly enhanced classroom preparedness, improved student confidence and morale, and contributed to reducing dropout risks by ensuring that children had the necessary resources to actively engage in their education. Recognising the importance of recreational and physical development in children's growth, the collaboration also focused on the development of Sustainable Playgrounds in schools lacking safe and functional play infrastructure. The playgrounds were developed using eco-friendly and recycled materials, including upcycled tyres, pallets, and metal structures, promoting sustainability while addressing infrastructural gaps. The project benefited approximately 3,500 children, while positively impacting over 4,000 students. In addition to educational and recreational support, the initiative extended its focus toward environmental sustainability and ecological restoration, through the implementation of the Bokashi Balls Project. This nature-based intervention sought to improve water quality and increase employee engagement in climate action through hands-on environmental participation. To conclude, these infrastructural developments collectively contribute to building inclusive, and sustainable communities, where we can help our children grow and become better leaders. Through a holistic and sustainable approach, the partnership has not only addressed immediate infrastructural needs but has also laid the foundation for long-term education and community development. The initiative taken above by Way for Life and NTT Data demonstrates how small actions often have larger multiplying effects on our society, leading to greater impact not only today but also in the years to come.
